SOCIAL ACTION & CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

St. Augustine Alumni Chapter | Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

The St. Augustine Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is committed to informed citizenship, community advocacy, and collaborative action that strengthens St. Augustine and St. Johns County. Our Social Action initiatives are designed to educate, engage, and empower residents while creating opportunities for our members and community partners to make a measurable difference.

Core Initiatives

  • Voter Registration & Education

Conduct nonpartisan voter registration and education initiatives that encourage eligible citizens to register, understand the voting process, and participate in local, state, and national elections.

  • Kappa Votes St. Johns

Develop a year-round civic engagement initiative focused on voter registration, voter education, election awareness, and encouraging participation in the democratic process.

  • Community Partnerships

Collaborate with organizations such as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the League of Women Voters, Divine Nine organizations, churches, civic organizations, and other community partners to expand the reach and effectiveness of nonpartisan civic initiatives.

  • Candidate & Community Forums

Convene nonpartisan forums that give residents opportunities to hear from candidates, elected officials, civic leaders, and subject-matter experts about issues affecting St. Augustine and St. Johns County.

  • Government & Civic Engagement

Encourage members and residents to become more engaged with city, county, and state government through commission meetings, public forums, legislative education, and direct interaction with public officials.

  • Kappa Day in Government

Establish opportunities for Brothers and Kappa Leaguers to visit local government, meet civic leaders, observe the policymaking process, and better understand how citizens can influence their communities.

  • Youth Civic Leadership

Incorporate civic education into our Guide Right and Kappa League programming, preparing young men to understand government, leadership, voting, public service, and their responsibility to their communities.

  • Education & College Access

Advocate for educational opportunity through scholarships, college-readiness initiatives, mentoring, HBCU awareness, and programs designed to help young people successfully pursue higher education.

  • Economic Empowerment

Support financial literacy, homeownership education, entrepreneurship, career development, and initiatives that strengthen economic opportunity for individuals, families, and local businesses.

  • Health & Wellness Advocacy

Partner with healthcare and community organizations to increase awareness of preventive care, men’s health, health disparities, and resources that contribute to healthier families and communities.

  • Community Issues & Public Policy

Educate our members and community about issues affecting education, economic opportunity, housing, public safety, healthcare, voting access, and other matters important to St. Augustine and St. Johns County.

  • Community Action Agenda

Identify a focused set of annual civic priorities that allows the Chapter to move beyond individual events toward sustained, measurable community impact.

A Collaborative Approach

  • We believe meaningful social action requires partnership rather than duplication.
  • We seek opportunities to work alongside organizations such as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the League of Women Voters, as well as other Divine Nine, civic, faith-based, educational, governmental, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Our civic engagement activities will remain nonpartisan, emphasizing informed participation, voter education, community dialogue, and constructive engagement with government.

Through Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor, we seek not only to serve our community, but also to help develop informed citizens, future leaders, and stronger institutions.

Educate. Engage. Advocate. Serve.

Building a stronger St. Augustine through civic leadership and community action.
